Literature Text

Later on, Daring Do came across a large creek. The water was murky and tall reeds lined the creek's boarders. Frogs and Storks feed and drank near the edge.

But then, just as she began to drink, a long snout with sharp teeth struck right out of the murk of the creek. The Frogs and Storks retreated in fear. Daring leapt back in fright, her heart racing quickly from the unexpected ambush. "Talk about unexpected visitors!"

The attacker was a 40-foot-long Crocodilian Reptile with a 6-foot-long head and many sharp, pointed teeth in its mouth. It then began to bask on the bank, slowly getting enough heat from the sun (due to being cold-blooded) so it could catch its target, Daring Do!

"Better find out about this Crocodile and Alligator cousin", said Daring, pulling out her book and looking for information on this carnivorous Reptile. She found the correct profile. "Mahamba, eh?" she said as she read. She learned that the Mahamba is a descendant of Sarcosuchus, solitary and normally ambushes from the water, like other Crocodilians.

All of a sudden, the Reptile bolted right for Daring, making snarling hisses, grabbed her leg with its powerful jaws and dragged her underwater. Daring held her breath as best she could. She got her hind leg free and bucked at the Mahamba.

Daring ran far away from the creek and the roaring Mahamba. That's when she bumped into an enormous Snake, measuring about 33 feet long, resting on a large boulder, all coiled up and basking in the sun. It had lots of tiny little spines running down its vertebrae.

"Those little dorsal spines are rather unusual for a Snake", said Daring, getting out her book and looking for the right profile. She found that this species is called Nguma-Monene, a descendant of the now extinct Gigantophis. She also learned that this big constricting Snake has something unusual for a constricting Snake, the ability to inject venom.

"I'd better leave this guy to rest", said Daring, turning away as the Nguma-Monene made deep-sounding breaths while it slept.

After finding some good Bananas to eat, Daring decided that she should get going soon. She then began thinking about her boyfriend, back home. She imagined him opening his forelegs wide and hugging her while she did the same back.

Suddenly, her brief daydream was interupted by loud shrieking squawks from above. Daring Do looked up to see a small flock of black-and-red-colored flying Reptiles (or Pterosaurs) flapping overhead. They had 6-foot wingspans, long tails with diamond-shaped vanes at the end and long beaks with sharp, jagged teeth.

"They look like primitive Pterosaurs, indeed", said Daring, getting out her book and found the right profile. She learned the species name, Kongamato. A descendant of Rhamphorhynchus. They can be territorial if needed.

Later on, late afternoon approached. Daring was on her way to the valley's mountain barrier when she spotted a village nearby, surrounded by tall wooden posts, making a protective wall.

"This must be a Mandrill village", she said, remembering he young Mandrill from earlier.

Daring walked over and peeked through a tiny gap in the fence. She saw all these Mandrills, young and old, wearing grass skirts and pebble-and-bone necklaces. Theses colorful-faced Monkeys were grinded up large maggots and fruit to make special meals, while some danced around a small fire, wearing wooden masks and playing drums and flutes.

"Looks nice", said Daring to herself, "But I have to go home now. This expedition has been quite an adventure"

Daring flew over the high mountains and reached the other side, flying over the Everfree Forest and made it to her home town in time. There, Daring spotted her boyfriend, a light blue Unicorn Pony named Sky Spirit, standing in the park, feeling lonesome.

Daring swooped over to him, they both got happy and kissed. Daring then began telling Sky all about her latest adventure.

The book ended here and Rainbow Dash closed it up.

"That was awesome, scientific and romantic at the same time", said Rainbow, "WICKED COMBINATION!!!"

The End
